This table shows approximate hardness of steel using Brinell, Rockwell B and C and Vickers scales. These conversion charts are provided for guidance only as each scales uses different methods of measuring hardness. The right hand column show an approximate equivalent tensile strength.
AISI 304 stainless steel mechanical properties are given in the datasheet below including tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, reduction in area, Brinell and Rockwell hardness, etc. Data are from professional, authoritative and trustworthy ASTM standards.

20 wrz 2024 · The hardness of 304 stainless steel typically ranges from 70 to 90 HRB (Rockwell B) in its annealed condition. Similar to 316 stainless steel, if 304 stainless steel undergoes cold working or other processes, its hardness can increase, potentially reaching about 30 to 40 HRC (Rockwell C).
14 sie 2024 · The Rockwell hardness of 304 stainless steel typically falls within the range of: Rockwell B (HRB): 70-90. Rockwell C (HRC): 20-30. These values indicate that 304 stainless steel is relatively soft compared to other stainless steels but still has sufficient hardness for many applications.
Note 2: Hardness specification limits given are HRB = Rockwell B scale, HRC = Rockwell C scale, HB = Brinell Hardness. Note 3: 3CR12 generally conforms with both ASTM A240 grade S41003 and with EN 10088 Parts 1 and 2, grade 1.4003. Properties quoted are from EN 10088.2.
