The clue is found in the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5. There Jesus said to the little band of disciples gathered around him-ordinary men, fishermen, tax collectors, farmers-these amazing words: "You are the salt of the earth...You are the light of the world."
The opening words of Jesus to describe each builder are exactly the same: “Everyone who hears these words of mine …” (Matthew 7:24,26) There are several things to note here. First of all, notice that Jesus says “everyone.”
Matthew 24 and 25 is known as “The Olivet Discourse.” It is a discourse or a sermon by our Lord Jesus Christ, delivered on the Mount of Olives. Its subject is the second coming of Christ. So it is His own sermon, His own message about His own second coming.
