1 kwi 2007 · I've always preferred 22 rifles which utilize some method of really locking up the cartridge head and not just the bolt handle into a receiver slot. The 581's also have a very fast lock time, another feature I like. I fitted a .750 diameter straight taper SS barrel into a 581 action, worked over the trigger a bit, and fitted it into a 541 stock.
.22 air rifles are the best choice for medium to large pests. The extra weight provides the best take-down power in a pellet gun. Look for velocities of 500-900 fps for best results in a .22 caliber air rifle.
