You cannot force your garden vegetables to grow, but you can water, feed, and care for them to help them to grow. You cannot force people to like you, but you can be friendly and likable.
According to 2 Peter 3, the day of judgment or ^day of the Lord _ will involve the destruction by fire of the heavens and the earth, and of the elements _ (3:7, 10, 12, KJV). In their place will come new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells _ (3:13).
To sum up his intent, Peter provided an inclusio in 1:2 and 3:18, beginning and ending the letter under the central headings of the grace of God and the knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Instead of allowing suffering, trials, and adversity to cause us to lose ground, Peter encourages us to respond to the challenges of life by doing two things 1) grow in grace and 2) in the knowledge of Jesus Christ. Grow in Grace. We are to grow in God’s grace. Spiritual growth is the expectation of every believer.
Growth in grace includes growth in knowledge. But let's look in general at growth in grace, then we'll get more specific and talk about growth in knowledge. Grow in grace: All growth is by grace; it's God's gift. We must constantly ask him in prayer to make us grow.
