The Olympics has been exclusively broadcast on NBC and NBCUniversal's TV networks in the United States since 1988 for the Summer Olympics and 2002 for the Winter Olympics. American television companies are one of the major sources of revenue for the IOC .
The event telecasts during the Olympics have aired primarily in the evening and on weekend afternoons on NBC, and varying times on its cable networks (such as after the close of the stock market day on CNBC, the early mornings on MSNBC, overnights on the USA Network, and formerly various hours on now defunct NBCSN).
Between all the NBC Universal networks (NBC, CNBC, MSNBC, Bravo, USA Network and Telemundo) the games were on television 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In their 2004 coverage, NBC and its sister networks presented live coverage throughout the morning and afternoon, while showing marquee events pre-taped in prime time.

Nurmi has the edge in overall medal count, 12 to 10. As a nation, the U.S. owns a massive advantage in gold medals, with 328 golds and 828 overall medals.
