4 gru 2009 · I've done the washer method, but I prefer using a paint stirring stick cut into 1.5" long pieces. 4-5 pieces wedged between the coils on each spring, install the springs, open the hood, pick up the wedges, and you're done.

The 23 coil springs are listed across the board for '49-'54 in their 1959 Master Parts Catalog as opposed to the '49 - '52 (28 coil springs), '53 - '54 (23 coil springs) split. I made this discovery a few years back and did point it out on the build forum with my Fleetline Build / Preservation.
25 maj 2007 · Here's a neat trick for installing hood springs including a video courtesy of Bob Hayden on ChevyTalk. He said if you need to stretch the spring out to fit the tool in, you can use a jack or hoist. http://chevy.tocmp.com/miscellaneous/hoodspring.htm
