24 kwi 2010 · The best book out there for VAMs is The Comprehensive Catalogue and Encyclopedia of Morgan & Peace Dollars by Leroy Van Allen and George Mallis. *The lowest price I've seen is on eBay, for around $55. Also VAMworld is a great site that list all the known VAMs. Here's a link to their VAM listings page: VAMworld

1921-d vam-1a "tru_t". Made popular by one of the leading VAM reference books, The Top 100 Morgan Dollar varieties: The VAM Keys, by Michael S. Fey, Ph.D. and Jeff Oxman, VAM-1A coins are among the most widely known of all 1921-D die varieties.
The upshot of all this is the fact that the 1921-D VAM 1X late die state made it into the Hit List 40 precisely because of its breathtaking die break features. Few would question the fact that the VAM 1X (now VAM 1X2) is the most dramatic shattered die known for the entire Morgan dollar series.
