19 lis 2010 · For what it's worth, I have an 1886 and three 1895 Marlin's. My '86 is a fine rifle but not twice as good as an 1895. Things I dislike about the new '86 are: the tang safety, the weight, the crescent buttplate, and most of all the rebounding hammer. The '86 does a lot more sitting in the safe than the Marlin's ever did.
7 paź 2010 · Considering to get me a .45-70 levergun, there is the choice between the Marlin 1895 and the Winchester 1886. The latter is also available in Browning and Pedersoli copies. Surely I would prefer an original 1886, but on this side of the pool they are as common as white ravens.
5 maj 2023 · The biggest advantage of the Marlin 1895 is the side ejection and the closed top frame. It was also a lot cheaper than the Winchester. Both systems are in my opinion in no way inferior to each other in smoothness and quality.

27 lis 2011 · Ideally change a Marlin 1895 SBL to a longer chamber. Liking the ballistics of the longer case/lower pressures. Kind of like a 458 win in a levergun. I have heard the arguments of COL problems, and feeder manipulations required. I have contacted DRC, and WWG inquiring out the modifications on a Marlin. I will post costs/responses.
