There was some kind of a paper disc surrounding the positive terminal vents on the OEM wraps I cut away. I've no idea what purpose that serves, but I put it back under the new wraps just to be safe.

I think you’ll find that you’ll damage the wrapping on the cells when pull them apart because of the damn glue they use. You should get you some 18650 heat shrink wrap on hand for this occasion. Also a pair of electrical flush cutters will be helpful.
