The 1-10 scale looks to me like the best way to ascertain whether or not the person I'm engaged in a conversation with is a complete douche-bag. If he uses the scale, he's a moron. If he does not, I will continue to maintain civil discourse with him.

I view it the same as with a 1 - 10 scale for "reviewing" anything, really... at least to me, "5" is the middle-ground/average/plain. Anything higher is of course good or above average, and obviously anything < 5 is bad.
