18 mar 2010 · I use aluminum pipe wrenches and would not hesitate to use 24" wrenches on a 1" union. Try harder and you will likely get it. The proper direction of flow is that whatever half is the male side would be upstream. The downstream side is female side.

22 mar 2005 · Everything works fine, but one of the two brass unions (brand new) that I installed is leaking. I tried tightening it down further, but with no luck. I noticed that the angle of one of the pipes approaching is at a slightly different angle that the pump side.
