Dorothy Gale is a fictional character created by the American author L. Frank Baum as the protagonist in many of his Oz novels. She first appears in Baum's classic 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and reappears in most of its sequels.

Dorothy appears in the ABC TV series Once Upon a Time, in the Season 3 episode "Kansas". In it, she is whisked away to Oz by a tornado, where she is rescued from the debris of her home by Zelena (the Wicked Witch of the West) and Glinda.

The Wicked Witch of the East is one of the evil witches who inhabits Oz. Dorothy unwittingly kills the Wicked Witch of the East when her house lands on the Witch, which causes the Munchkins and the Good Witch of the South to see Dorothy as a hero.
