The Apollo program, also known as Project Apollo, was the United States human spaceflight program carried out by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), which succeeded in preparing and landing the first men [2] on the Moon from 1968 to 1972.

On January 27, 1967, Astronauts Virgil Grissom, Edward White, and Roger Chaffee were killed in a test for the first Apollo mission. This mission was originally called Apollo Saturn-204 (AS-204) but was redesignated Apollo 1 as a tribute.
