Vitamin K therapy improves hemostasis in Vitamin K deficient patients. It is often initiated pending test results, but maintenance of vitamin K is not indicated for patients having diagnoses of thrombocytopenia, hereditary factor deficiencies, or DIC.

Vitamin K therapy is often initiated even in asymptomatic animals. Vitamin K 1 , 2.5–3 mg/kg SC, is recommended for initial treatment of coumarin toxicity, followed by 1.25–2.5 mg/kg, PO, twice daily for 4–6 days, followed by measurement of PT 48 hours later.
Vitamin K is a fat-soluble vitamin essential for the post-translational processing of the prothrombin group of coagulation factors (Factors II, VII, IX, and X). Vitamin K deficiency causes excessive bleeding due to failure of normal fibrin clot formation.
Vitamin K compounds are used in the treatment and prevention of haemorrhage associated with vitamin K deficiency and also as antagonists for anticoagulant poisoning (e.g. rodenticide toxicity and sweet clover poisoning).
1 mar 2018 · Vitamin K 1 is the form of the fat-soluble vitamin K found in plants, and it is the safest form of vitamin K. Purified and synthetic vitamin K 1 is commercially available. Vitamin K 1 can be safely fed to dogs and cats without restriction.

18 mar 2020 · Intravenous vitamin K 1 rapidly reverses the coagulopathic state in dogs with anticoagulant rodenticide toxicosis. It is a viable alternative therapy to plasma transfusion if circumstances preclude its use; however, patients must be monitored for anaphylactoid reactions.
