Troponin T (cTnT) and troponin I (cTnI) increase 2-3 hours after the onset of acute myocardial infarction. The maximum troponin value is observed in 12–48 hours. Troponin may be elevated for up to 2 weeks after a heart attack. The larger the infarction, the higher the troponin level and the longer the duration of elevated troponin levels.
