According to the Bible, the Tribe of Gad (Hebrew: גָּד, Modern: Gad, Tiberian: Gāḏ, "soldier" or "luck") was one of the Twelve Tribes of Israel who, after the Exodus from Egypt, settled on the eastern side of the Jordan River. It is one of the ten lost tribes.
Gad, one of the 12 tribes of Israel that in biblical times composed the people of Israel who later became the Jewish people. A Mighty Tribe. Gad was one of the twelve sons of Jacob, making up the twelve tribes of Israel. Gad was the son of Zilpah, one of Jacob's four wives, who was also the mother of Asher. According to tradition, Gad was born (and died) on the tenth day of this month, Cheshvan (Shemos Rabba 1: 5).
The same notion that Gad is not of pure Israelitish stock underlies the Biblical genealogy of the tribe's eponym. He is the son of Zilpah, Leah's handmaid, not a full brother to Reuben and the other northern tribes. The geographical notes on Gad are for the same reason diverse and divergent.
27 cze 2022 · Gad was the seventh child born to Jacob. He was born to Leah’s maid Zilpah in Padanaram. He and the rest of his brothers make up the twelve tribes of Israel. It was later on that the sons of Jacob came to be called the Twelve Patriarchs of Israel.
