12 maj 2023 · What is the Thenar Eminence. The thenar eminence is the fleshy mound at the base of the thumb on the radial side of the palm of the hand. It is formed by the bulge of the bellies of three intrinsic hand muscles. Together these are called the thenar muscles.
The muscles of the thenar and the hypothenar eminence along with the adductor compartment make up the intrinsic muscles of the hand. Their origin and insertion is within the carpal and metacarpal bones and are surrounded by ligaments, and fascia of the hand.
