8 wrz 2023 · Recall that inverse trig functions are the inverses of trigonometric functions such as sine and cosine. For example, since we know that \(\sin\left(\frac{\pi}{6}\right)=\frac{1}{2}\), the inverse function swaps the input and output, so that \(\sin^{-1}\left(\frac{1}{2}\right)=\frac{\pi}{6}\).
Inverse Sine Function. But sometimes it is the angle we need to find. This is where "Inverse Sine" comes in. It answers the question "what angle has sine equal to opposite/hypotenuse?" The symbol for inverse sine is sin-1, or sometimes arcsin.
Sin (θ), Tan (θ), and 1 are the heights to the line starting from the x -axis, while Cos (θ), 1, and Cot (θ) are lengths along the x -axis starting from the origin. Since none of the six trigonometric functions are one-to-one, they must be restricted in order to have inverse functions.
2 sty 2021 · On these restricted domains, we can define the inverse trigonometric functions. The inverse sine function y = sin − 1x means x = sin y. The inverse sine function is sometimes called the arcsine function, and notated arcsin x. The inverse cosine function y = cos − 1x means x = cos y.
The inverse function reverses this operation, taking the ratio of sides as input and returning the angle as output: \[\begin{align} \sin^{-1} \left( \frac{b}{c} \right) &= \theta \\ \cos^{-1} \left( \frac{a}{c} \right) &= \theta \\ \tan^{-1} \left( \frac{b}{a} \right) &= \theta. \end{align} \]
4 mar 2023 · The inverse sine function, \(\sin ^{-1} x\), is also called the arcsine function and denoted by \(\arcsin x\). (This terminology reminds us that the output of the inverse sine function is an angle, or the arc on a unit circle determined by that angle, as shown below.)
