The guideline considers diagnosis of asthma and management in all patients with a diagnosis of asthma, although there is less evidence available for people at either age extreme.
Guideline Network (SIGN) have agreed to develop a joint national guideline on asthma. The guideline will update the NICE guideline on asthma: diagnosis, monitoring and chronic asthma management (NG80) and the relevant sections of the published BTS/SIGN guideline: British guideline on the management of asthma (SIGN 158).
SIGN methodology is a multidisciplinary clinically led process which employs robust critical appraisal of the literature, coupled with consideration of pragmatic studies to ensure that guidelines provide clinically relevant recommendations.
