Szukajwarchiwach.gov.pl is an on-line service developed by the NDA which presents scans and descriptions of archive materials collected in the Polish archives.
Choose “ vital records and civil registers ” button located above the search field and type in the name of your ancestor’s parish, then press the Search button. Within the results choose the records of your interest – taking into account dates, religion and type of record (births, marriages, deaths) Click the box to see more details.
Birth, Marriage, Divorce and Death Certificates. A copy of the record may be obtained from any Vital Statistics Office in Poland. The Embassy cannot obtain documents on your behalf, and cannot provide translations of documents issued in Polish.
birth certificates and records related to registering births – for 100 years; marriage and death certificates and records related to their registration – for 80 years. Vital records offices can issue copies of birth, marriage and death certificates.
Births and deaths that occurred abroad, even where not registered in the country in which they occurred, can be registered in Poland. Likewise, births, marriages or deaths that took place in a country with no registry of vital records can be registered in Poland.
In the case of persons born abroad and without a registered address in Poland, the issuance (as a result of transcription) of a Polish birth certificate is a necessary condition for assigning a PESEL number.
