The petiole is a stalk that attaches a leaf to the plant stem. In petiolate leaves the leaf stalk may be long (as in the leaves of celery and rhubarb), or short (for example basil). When completely absent, the blade attaches directly to the stem and is said to be sessile.
18 sty 2024 · Compare petiolate and sessile leaves. Distinguish among alternate, opposite, and whorled phyllotaxes. Compare simple, pinnately compound, and palmately compound leaves.
17 gru 2016 · We call the leaves that are connected to the stem through a simple petiole petiolates. In some cases, leaves are attached to the stem without a petiole, so we call them sessile . Petioles themselves can also have differences.
The Petiole. Most leaves have a stem that attaches the blade of the leaf to the rest of the plant. This is the petiole. However, in some plants, the leaves do not have a petiole and the blade is directly attached to the plant stem. These leaves are sessile (lacking a petiole).
7 lut 2022 · In our observations, we identified five different petiole outlines: circular, with indentation (terete petiole), flattened horizontally, flattened vertically and polygonal. We found that those with an indentation and polygonal outline tend to occur in longer petioles from taller trees, while circular outlines tend to be more frequent in shorter ...
Leaves with petiole are called petiolate while those without petiole, are called sessile. They may be short or long and cylindrical. Sometimes, it is flattened as in the case of lemon.
Describe the morphological characteristics of plant leaves. Leaves are specialized structures for photosynthesis that provide plants with energy. Leaves arise at nodes just below an axillary bud on woody stems and are usually petiolate, that is composed of a blade and stalk-like petiole.
