Unemployment insurance provides short-term income to unemployed workers who lose their jobs through no fault of their own. Unemployment insurance is financed by premiums paid by employers to both the federal and state governments.
Apply for unemployment benefits as soon as you become unemployed. Your application will be effective the week it was filed. Your first payment will begin processing after you (1) receive your eligibility determination AND (2) file your first weekly claim.
