Teachers and other education employees are enrolled in one of two plans, the Teachers’ Retirement System of the City of New York (TRS) and the New York State Teachers’ Retirement System (NYSTRS). [1]

It’s an important part of our commitment to help you make informed decisions about your future at each stage of your teaching career. The information in this Handbook is subject to change.
NYSTRS administers retirement, disability and death benefits for members. Eligibility depends on factors such as tier of membership, age, earnings and service credit.
27 wrz 2012 · All public school teachers and teaching assistants in New York belong to the state Teachers' Retirement System (TRS), except those who teach in New York City and belong to the Teachers' Retirement System of the City of New York.
Visit the New York City Teachers' Retirement System at nyctrs.org. Your tier depends on when you first joined the retirement system. Under the existing Retirement & Social Security Law all teachers and teaching assistants who joined on or after Sept. 1, 1983, are in Tier 4.
