18 lis 2017 · NATO operates a fleet of Boeing E-3A Airborne Warning & Control System (AWACS) aircraft, with their distinctive radar domes mounted on the fuselage, which provide the Alliance with air surveillance, command and control, battle space management and communications.
Currently AWACS aircraft are flying missions in support of NATO's Assurance Measures to its Eastern Allies, introduced in 2014, after Russia's illegal and illegitimate annexation of the Crimean peninsula.
NATO AWACS play a unique role for the Alliance by conducting airborne early warning and control capability (C2). The fleet is currently involved in assurance measures that followed Russia's illegal and illegitimate annexation of Crimea in 2014, as well as in tailored assurance measures to Turkey.
28 wrz 2023 · NATO will temporarily deploy Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) surveillance planes to Šiauliai, Lithuania. The first of two aircraft will arrive on Thursday (28 September 2023) and will fly missions to monitor Russian military activity near the Alliance’s borders.

15 lis 2023 · NATO has operated a fleet of E-3A Airborne Warning and Control (AWACS) aircraft since the 1980s. Based at Geilenkirchen airbase in Germany, the AWACS have flown in every major NATO operation, including the fight against ISIS as well as on NATO’s eastern flank following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
