Long scale. In the long scale, a billion means one million millions (10 12) and a trillion means one million billions (10 18), and so on. Therefore, a long scale n -illion equals 10 6n. [1][2]
The naming procedure for large numbers is based on taking the number n occurring in 10 3n+3 (short scale) or 10 6n (long scale) and concatenating Latin roots for its units, tens, and hundreds place, together with the suffix -illion.
The words bymillion and trimillion, and millions were first written to describe extremely large numbers in 1475 by Jehan Adam. In 1484, Nicolas Chuquet used the words million, byllion, trillion, and even further to write and describe way much larger numbers. [2] Adam and Chuquet both used long scale.
The long and short scales are two of several large-number naming systems for integer powers of ten that use the same words with different meanings. The long scale is based on powers of one million (1,000,000), whereas the short scale is based on powers of one thousand (1,000).

Table contains names of large numbers such as million, milliard, billion etc., but also less common e.g. quintilliard. Calculator supports two naming systems (so-called scales): "short scale" (used in most English-speaking countries e.g. UK or USA) and "long scale" (used in most of continental Europe countries).
