  6. About this letter. 1. The Writer. The letter does not tell us who wrote it. The tradition is that John is the author. John was an *apostle. He was one of the 12 men that Jesus first called to follow him. John was the writer of the fourth *Gospel, which we know as the *Gospel of John.
