The city is located 26 km (16 mi) from the ruins of Muaro Jambi Temple Compounds, an important city in the ancient Srivijaya kingdom.
Kota Jambi merupakan enklave dari kabupaten Muaro Jambi yang memiliki luas sekitar 205,38 km² dengan jumlah penduduk pertengahan tahun 2023 sebanyak 633.650 jiwa. [1] [2] Hari jadi Kota Jambi ditetapkan pada tanggal 28 Mei 1401 berdasarkan peraturan daerah Kota Jambi nomor 3 tahun 2014.
