Acute hemorrhagic diarrhea syndrome (AHDS) is a new name proposed to describe the syndrome known for decades as hemorrhagic gastroenteritis (HGE). The new name defines the disease better since studies out of Germany have demonstrated that affected dogs do not display any gastric inflammation.
Acute hemorrhagic diarrhea syndrome (AHDS) of dogs is characterized by a sudden onset of severe bloody diarrhea associated with a dramatic loss of fluid into the intestinal lumen.
