Drakes are wingless dragons that can be killed with level 84 Slayer. They have a volcanic breath attack that can be avoided or reduced with dragonfire protection. They drop pre-roll weapons and armour, runes, herbs and seeds.
I absolutely could not stand drakes, but I got a Dragon hunter lance and that made a huge difference. It's still not the most efficient task but as you said it's pretty good, decent profit and afk enough. With Rada's blessing 4 it's pretty easy to bank and get back for your drake bones.
