If you have split ends it seems logical that cutting them off would work in stopping them splitting even further up the hair. But it also seems logical that if you have damaged hair that splits easily, you could soon see new split ends after a trim.
I can see the split ends as they are white at the ends. Just in the picture alone, I can say that seatbelt (along with other items) can be blamed. Hair that gets stuck under purses, backpacks, seat belts, etc can end with breakage. There is a method of trimming that’s called S&D (seek and destroy). You just trim the split ends, not every strand.
