Fanny Mendelssohn (14 November 1805 – 14 May 1847) was a German composer and pianist of the early Romantic era who was known as Fanny Hensel after her marriage.

Fanny, who is highly self-critical, plays several demanding roles at once: She is mother to her son Sebastian, wife and back office secretary to her artist husband, as well as a composer. Her husband’s studio is next to the Garden Hall, where she presents Berlin’s best private concert series.
Fanny meets the painter Wilhelm Hensel, her future husband. Felix travels with Zelter to visit Goethe in Weimar. The first “Sonntagsmusiken”, private concerts with professional musicians, take place in the Mendelssohn house. Fanny emerges as a pianist, probably also as a conductor and composer.
