Early-onset preeclampsia is usually defined as preeclampsia that develops before 34 weeks of gestation, whereas late-onset preeclampsia develops at or after 34 weeks of gestation. Although the presenting features overlap, they are associated with different maternal and fetal outcomes, biochemical markers, heritability, and clinical features.
Pre-eclampsia is a progressive disease of pregnancy involving multiple organ systems. The clinical definition has evolved over time, from simply hypertension and proteinuria, to a broader classification that recognises the complex multi-organ system involvement caused by the disease.
21 mar 2024 · Pre-eclampsia is a hypertensive syndrome that occurs in pregnant women, most often after 20 weeks' gestation, which consists of new-onset, persistent hypertension with either proteinuria or evidence of systemic involvement.
Most investigators considered early-onset preeclampsia as that occurring before 34weeks. Conclusions: A definition of pre-eclampsia is paramount for driving good clinical practice. Classifications on the other hand are useful to enable international comparisons of clinical data and outcomes.
