15 paź 2024 · The number of persons held under the jurisdiction of the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) grew 1% (up 2,000 persons) from 2021 to 2022, while the number held under the jurisdiction of state correctional authorities increased 2% (up 23,100).
The imprisonment rate varies widely by state; Louisiana surpasses this by about 100%, but Maine incarcerates at about a fifth this rate. A report released February 28, 2008, indicates that more than 1 in 100 adults in the United States are in prison.

The rate of persons under supervision of adult correctional systems was 2,060 per 100,000 adult U.S. residents at yearend 2022, the fifteenth year of decline since the high of 3,210 per 100,000 under supervision in 2007.
