Columbus Commons is home to one of Ohio’s newest carousels – a small, gorgeous number topped with images of great places to visit in the city. This is a really nice “first carousel ride” for little ones, due to its size and the promise of fairytale trips atop a princess horse or frog prince.
Restored by Carousel Works in Mansfield Ohio, it opened to the public in the fall of 2014. Guests can now enjoy a ride on many of the original horses and see hand-painted scenes depicting Cleveland icons and Euclid Beach Park.
The carousel is a three-row carousel with 52 jumpers and two chariots (new replacements). The carousel was originally at Olentangy Park in Columbus, Ohio from 1914 to 1946 when it moved to Wyandot Lake in Powell, Ohio where it resided until 1999 when it was acquired by the Columbus Zoo.
The spectacular Richland Carrousel Park was built in 1991. It is the first hand-carved carousel to be created in the U.S. since the 1930s. It was carved and painted by Carousel Works in Mansfield in the style of a Dentzel carousel.
