1 gru 2022 · Bilateral Musculus Sternalis is very rare, present in under 1.7% of the population. • The muscle is well known to anatomists but unfamiliar to surgeons. • The muscle can cause “sternalis syndrome” and chest wall asymmetry. • Sternalis may affect the interpretation of mammograms and electrocardiograms. •
A detailed review of the anatomy, historical background and prevalence of the sternalis muscle is presented, with both the significant radiological and surgical implications of this variant specifically discussed.
16 sty 2014 · The sternalis muscle is a well documented but rare muscular variation of the anterior thoracic wall. It lies between the superficial fascia and the pectoral fascia and is found in about 8% of the population. It presents in several morphological variants both unilaterally and bilaterally and has no apparent physiological function.
1 lut 2022 · We report a rare case of bilateral strap-like sternalis muscle of the anterior chest wall in a female cadaver. Its presence may evoke alterations in the electrocardiogram or confuse a routine...
Studies by Bailey and Tzarnas [2] and Barlow [3] indi-cate that they both agree that the prevalence of the unilateral form is twice as common as the bilateral form, but many other researchers have discovered equal ratios between the two morphologies [4, 6].
