The "Best" Random Wire Antenna Lengths. Randon wire lengths you should and should not use! One single wire, no solder connections, very simple.... all the way from the tuner to the end support. That's it in a nutshell..... or is it?
All you need for a random wire antenna is some wire, your tuner, one or more supports up as high as you can get them to string the wire from the supports to the tuner, at least one or two insulators and a little time.
Random Wire Antenna Lengths. When on the trail, at Field Day, or whenever a good antenna is unavailable, a random wire can save the day, but it is important to understand its properties. At multiples of half wavelengths of the transmit frequency the impedance is so high that tuners in most rigs often can't match it.
19 sty 2017 · I enjoy connecting random wires to my bicycle mobile antenna, which consists of a 10 foot long PVC pipe. For the best length, question I say use a 3/8th wave wire; a good compromise between the low impedence quarter wave, and high impedance half wave.
There are ideal lengths that have been mathematically determined to be best for random wires. Here they are: 29 35 41 58 71 84 107 119 148 203 347 407 423. I have chosen 35’ as the standard length for my antennas, but you can experiment.
26 kwi 2012 · The shortest antenna that has a chance of tuning all bands has an electrical length of 143 feet and should be trimmed to give a quarter wave resonance at 1.72 MHz.
