An airline alliance is an aviation industry arrangement between two or more airlines agreeing to cooperate on a substantial level. Alliances may provide marketing branding to facilitate travelers making inter-airline codeshare connections within countries.
20 maj 2024 · Star Alliance, oneworld, and SkyTeam are the three major airline alliances globally, with nearly 60 airlines altogether. Airlines in an alliance pool resources to expand routes, share frequent flyer rewards, and offer codeshare flights.
Most of the major airlines today have code sharing partnerships with other airlines, and code sharing is a key feature of the major airline alliances. Typically, code-sharing agreements are also part of the commercial agreements between airlines in the same airline alliances.

Those airlines often have extensive codeshare arrangements with other carriers outside the alliance.

You could, for example, book a flight on, say, Delta Air Lines' website from New York JFK to Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) and later discover that you are flying with KLM .
