IEEE 802.1Q, often referred to as Dot1q, is the networking standard that supports virtual local area networking (VLANs) on an IEEE 802.3 Ethernet network. The standard defines a system of VLAN tagging for Ethernet frames and the accompanying procedures to be used by bridges and switches in handling such frames.
Only 12 bits are used for VLANs in 802.1q, so you can only use VLANs from 0-4095 (=4096* different VLANs). *actually 2 less, 0 and 4095 are reserved. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_802.1Q#Frame_format. PS: 4096(DEC) is 1000000000000(BIN) 4095(DEC) is 111111111111(BIN) Share. Improve this answer. edited Oct 4, 2013 at 14:28.
AppleTalk can be routed over virtual LAN (VLAN) subinterfaces using the IEEE 802.1Q VLAN encapsulation protocol. AppleTalk Routing provides full-feature Cisco IOS software AppleTalk support on a per-VLAN basis, allowing standard AppleTalk capabilities to be configured on VLANs.
The 802.1Q specification establishes a standard method for inserting VLAN membership information into Ethernet frames. Cisco NCS 5000 Series Router supports VLAN subinterface configuration on 10-Gigabit Ethernet and 100-Gigabit Ethernet interfaces. The range for VLANs is 1-4094.
18 paź 2002 · IEEE 802.1Q is a standard protocol for interconnecting multiple switches and routers and for defining VLAN topologies. Use the encapsulation dot1q command in interface range mode to apply a VLAN ID to each subinterface within the range specified by the interface range command.
25 paź 2024 · 802.1Q - The most common encapsulation method for VLAN tagging. This is the method used by Meraki devices. Native VLAN - The VLAN associated with all untagged traffic on a trunk. Subnet - A logical network that may be derived from a larger network ID.
