Zurab Konstantinovich Tsereteli (Georgian: ზურაბ კონსტანტინეს ძე წერეთელი, Russian: Зураб Константинович Церетели; born 4 January 1934) is a Georgian-Russian painter, sculptor and architect known for large-scale and at times controversial monuments.
Works By Period. 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s. Open Gallery.
Peter the Great, or The 300th Anniversary of The Russian Navy – Moscow, Russia – 1997
The religious motivation of much of Tsereteli’s work is invisibly present in each and every one of his paintings, sculptural compositions, enamels, mosaics, stained glasses, watercolours and drawings.
Exposure includes the collection of Zurab Tsereteli’s works and the collection of his monumental sculpture in the courtyard, along with mosaic and stained glass compositions. Over 250 works of painting, graphics and enamel and easel sculpture are presented on the three floors of the site.
In his work, Zurab Tsereteli confronts and communicates the philosophical problem of understanding and artistically expressing reality, its past and present. The artist, who was honoured with the title of UNESCO's Goodwill Ambassador, deserves to be called a "citizen of the world".
