2 mar 2013 · One great example for pistol loaders is Winchester W231 and Hodgdon HP-38 (the same powder branded differently). I have used this powder for many different cartridges and load levels- it meters great, is super-versatile, and is a great bulk-buy in 8 lb canisters.
15 wrz 2017 · Go to the Hodgdon powder website for a complete list of powder and bullet weight for using Win 231 and loads for the 357 magnum. Great site and where I get and use most of my reloading information. I have used Win 231 for years and you should not have any problems finding a load for it.
I found some old Winchester data for 158 grain lead bullets over 231 which showed 6.7 grains as the MAX with muzzle velocity of 1,275 and maximum pressure for .357 Magnum. (file attached with older Winchester data)
26 lis 2021 · I'm using a 148g HBWC over 3.5g of Winchester 231. I am looking to use 357 cases and my question is what is a good starting point for the powder that I have if I use regular small pistol primers instead of Magnum primers?
Winchester 231 is a ball powder, one of the most popular handgun propellants in history. It is ideally suited to 38 Special, 45 Auto, and 9mm standard loads. Consistency, clean burning, low flash, and a broad range of applications make this powder a choice for any handgun cartridge loader.
18 paź 2024 · WW231 and 357 Mag with 158 gr LSWC. I’ve used in the past and will soon load more, a 357 Magnum mid range load using 6.0 grs WW231 under 158 gr cast SWC. This load was based on 1997 Winchester load data for 158 gr lead bullet using WW231 powder (a low of 6.2 grs to max, if I recall, of 6.7 grs).
21 cze 2005 · I checked several loading manuals and found none that agreed with Winchester that 6.7 gr is the max of W231 with a 158 gr lead bullet in .357 Mag. Speer recommended 5.4 gr max and Hodgdon recommended a similar load. That's a pretty big difference from 6.7 grains for a relatively fast powder like 231.
