Fish farming or pisciculture involves commercial breeding of fish, most often for food, in fish tanks or artificial enclosures such as fish ponds. It is a particular type of aquaculture, which is the controlled cultivation and harvesting of aquatic animals such as fish, crustaceans, molluscs and so on, in natural or pseudo-natural environments.

WHAT IS AQUACULTURE? Aquaculture is the farming of fish, seaweed, and other aquatic species. Also known as fish farming, it accounts for almost half of the seafood humans eat (Edwards et al., 2019). This diverse and growing industry produced 82 million metric tons (mt) of seafood in 2018 .
The farming of fish is the most common form of aquaculture. It involves raising fish commercially in tanks, fish ponds, or ocean enclosures, usually for food.
