Historically, tsunamis generated by earthquakes in Alaska have caused damage and loss of life along the West Coast and across the Pacific Ocean. Here in Alaska, tsunamis generated by nearby earthquakes or landslides represent “near-field” hazards.
The National Tsunami Warning Center (NTWC) is one of two tsunami warning centers in the United States, covering all coastal regions of the United States and Canada, except Hawaii, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Until 2013, it was known as the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center.
28 lip 2021 · Advisory A tsunami Advisory is now in effect which includes the coastal areas of Alaska from Cape Decision, Alaska (85 miles SE of Sitka) to Hinchinbrook Entrance, Alaska (90 miles E of Seward).

The Alaska Earthquake Center, in partnership with the Alaska Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys and the Alaska Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, evaluates and maps potential tsunami inundation of coastal communities using numerical modeling of tsunami wave dynamics.
