The normal CGDA tuning is very "open" and it gives the instrument unusual voicings from both open and closed chords. The fifths tuning also makes for easy moveable chord shapes.

A tenor bass tuning of A–D–G–C, in which the low E is omitted and a high C is added, provides a higher range. Tuning in fifths e.g., C–G–D–A (like a violoncello but an octave lower) gives an extended upper and lower range. Further, some players prefer to tune their basses with a "Low G" (G 0).

30 paź 2023 · Personally I have grown really fond of tenor bass tuning, and currently my just 28.6" scale Ibanez Mikro Bass, which is my main bass, is strung up with Elixir Nanoweb guitar strings of the gauges .068 - .052 - .038 - .028, and tuned this way, in A standard tuning.
11 sty 2021 · To write my own latin-jazz style music on bass, I'm thinking of taking one of my 5-string Skjolds and tuning it as the first five strings on a 7-string bass. I guess you could call it "tenor" tuning, plus one higher string, so A-D-G-C-F, keeping it in fourths.
