George Takei (/ t ə ˈ k eɪ /, tə-KAY; born Hosato Takei (武井 穂郷, Takei Hosato); April 20, 1937) is an American actor, author and activist known for his role as Hikaru Sulu, helmsman of the USS Enterprise in the Star Trek franchise.
Sulu was portrayed by George Takei in Star Trek: The Original Series and the first six films. George Takei recalled Gene Roddenberry wanted the character to represent all of Asia, which symbolized the peace of the Trek universe in spite of the numerous wars in the continent.
