School Colors: Red and Blue. On the occasion of the school’s 50 th Anniversary in 1940, the Taft Papyrus published an article quoting Stuart Hotchkiss from the Class of 1896. Of the first 10 students to graduate from Taft, said Hotchkiss, nine were headed to Yale and one to Harvard.

View Daily Schedule. Tafties begin their day with a cafeteria-style breakfast, served from 7:00 am to 8:15 am, when classes begin. The academic day spans seven periods (see below), ranging in length from 45 to 70 minutes each.

Mr. Taft's School opened in the fall of 1893 in The Warren House. There were five teachers, 30 boarders, and a handful of day students; the boys were divided into five classes. The curriculum included Latin, mathematics, English, history, and science, with Greek and modern languages (French and German) available to the older students.
Students who earn the Global Studies and Service Diploma will demonstrate active citizenship: the capacity to appreciate the global dimension of everyday, local life and to catalyze social change within an increasingly complex and international world.
The Taft School is an academically rigorous co-educational college-preparatory boarding and day school in New England for students in grades 9-12. Close to 600 students from 44 countries and 33 states prepare for college at this academically rigorous school set on 226 acres.
