Characteristics of the Guideline Source. In 2018, CDC staff developed key questions and a systematic review of evidence in the 2015 guidelines (Table). Subject matter experts focused on 4 principal outcomes of STI therapy: (1) microbiologic cure, (2) alleviation of signs and symptoms, (3) prevention of sequelae, and (4) prevention of transmission.
