The renovation and expansion of Terminal 2 Boarding Area D at the San Francisco International Airport includes the conversion of the former international terminal into a 640,000 square foot, 14-gate domestic terminal for American Airlines and Virgin America.
Designed by project architect Gensler, the Terminal 2 renovation focused on creating a facility that provides travelers with an easy and memorable experience while capturing the spirit of the local San Francisco community.
The renovation is the first LEED Gold registered airport terminal in the United States, T2 supports SFO’s goals of zero waste, sustainable education and reduced carbon footprint.
SFO is planning for the future. Recommended passenger terminal projects include redevelopment of the International Terminal Building, improved connectivity between terminals, a revamped baggage handling system, and a new international boarding area.
