The Circuit Court for Prince George's County handles civil and criminal jury and non-jury trials, as well as, family and juvenile matters. The Circuit Court is part of the Seventh Judicial Circuit of Maryland.
The Circuit Court primarily operates from the Prince George’s County Courthouse located in Upper Marlboro, which includes a three-winged building housing the Circuit and District Courts.
By 1836, the Governor was empowered to name county court clerks to seven-year terms (Chapter 224, Acts of 1836, confirmed by Chapter 160, Acts of 1837). When Circuit Courts were established to succeed the County Courts in 1851, provision was made for a clerk to serve the court in each county (Constitution of 1851, Art. IV, sec. 14).
Welcome to the District Court of Maryland for Prince George's County located in Upper Marlboro, MD. The District Court hears landlord/tenant cases, replevin actions, traffic violations, criminal cases classified as misdemeanors and certain felonies, and civil cases in the amount of $30,000 or less. The District Court does not conduct jury trials.
