Informacje podstawowe. M26 Pershing był amerykańskim ciężkim średnim, klasyfikowanym początkowo jako ciężki, z okresu II wojny światowej i początkowego okresu Zimnej Wojny. Pierwsze prototypy powstały w 1943 roku, a produkcja seryjna trwała w okresie 1944-1945. W sumie powstało ok. 2200 egzemplarzy tego czołgu wszystkich wersji.

Development. The M26 was the culmination of a series of medium tank prototypes that began with the T20 in 1942, and it was a significant design departure from the previous line of U.S. Army tanks that had ended with the M4 Sherman. Several design features were tested in the prototypes.
