The Chequamegon–Nicolet National Forest (/ ʃɪˈwɑːmɪɡən ˌnɪkəˈleɪ /; the q is silent) [3] is a 1,530,647-acre (6,194.31 km 2) U.S. National Forest in northern Wisconsin in the United States. Due to logging in the early part of the 20th century, very little old growth forest remains.
The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest is located in Wisconsin's Northwoods, covering over a million and a half acres. Since 1993, these two national forests have been managed as one, with headquarters offices in both Park Falls and Rhinelander.
